Syed Nazrul Islam

Syed Nazrul Islam was declared as Vice President of Bangladesh by the Provisional Government during 17 April 1971 to 12 January 1972. He served as acting president of the Bangladesh Government in the absence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He is a senior leader of Awami League and renounded Politicians. He was born in 1925 at Jashodal Dampara, Kishorganj, Bangladesh. He obtained degrees in history and law from the University of Dhaka and was an active student political leader in the Muslim League. He captained his college's cricket and hokey teams and Pakistan Movement. He entered the civil service of Pakistan in 1949 but resigned in 1951 to work as Professor of history at the Anandmohan college in Mymensingh, where he also practiced law. In 1952 his political career began, when he joined the Awami Muslim League and participate in Language Movement in 1952, for which he arrested by Pakistani police.
