Buddhadev Bose
Buddhadev Bose was born on 30 November 1908 at Comilla, Bangladesh. He was a major Bengali writer of the twentieth century. He was a versatile writer, who wrote poetry, short novel, short stories, essays and plays. He was also a critic and editor of hand-written literary journal 'Pragati' and literary magazine 'Kavita'. 
Buddhadev Bose passed the matriculation examination from Dhaka Collegiate School in 1925. He passed his Inter of Arts examination from Dhaka Intermediate College in 1927. He completed his Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in 1930 and Master of Arts in 1931 from the Department of English from the University of Dhaka. He taught at Ripon College, Calcutta from 1934 to 1945, and worked as a journalist at the Statesman from 1944 to 1951. He worked in department of comparative Literature at Jadavpur University. He also taught at Pennsylvania College for Women in 1953 to 1954, Indiana University, Brooklyn College, Colorado University, Wesleyan College and the University of Hawii. His Kavita, which published poems was highly regarded in literary circles and played an important role in the post-Rabindra movement. Buddhadev Bose himself was able to emancipate from the influence of Tagore. He began as a romantic poet but later emphasized thought more than emotion. He was also a writer of distinctive prose. He wrote extensively both reflective articles and literary criticism.
Bose was a prolific writer, with over a hundred books to his credit. His books of poetry include Badir Bandana in 1930; Kankavati in 1937; Draupadir Shadi in 1948; Shiter Prathana: Basanter Uttar in 1955; Ye Andhar Alok Adhik in 1958; He wrote a number of novels: Lal Megh in 1934; Ratbhar Bristi in 1967; Patal Theke Alap in 1967; Golap Keno Kalo in 1968. Among his short history anthologist are Abhinay, Abhinay Nay in 1930; Rekha Chitra in 1931; Bhasao Amar Bhela in 1963. His plays include Tapasvi O Tarangini in 1966 and Kolkatar Electra O Satyasandha in 1968. His essays are anthologized in Kaler Putul in 1946; Sahityacharcha in 1954; Rabindranath: Kathasahitya in 1955; Shadesh O Sangskrti in 1957. He also wrote a  number of travelogues and memoirs: Hathat Alor Jhalkani in 1935; Sab Peyechhir Deshe in 1941; Japani Journal in 1962; Deshnath in 1966; Amar Chhelebela in 1973; Amar Yauban in 1976. His translations include Kalidaser Meghdut in 1957; Charles Baudelaire: Tar Kavita in 1960; Rainer Maria Rilker Kavita in 1970.
